Historical Background
Established in 1966 as a collaboration between the then Thai government and the Australian government under the Colombo Plan,
to construct Highway No. 105, the Tak - Mae Sot route. Its name at that time was Tak Machinery Center. In 1985,
it was renamed Tak Road Construction Center and undertook the construction of various roads to develop transportation infrastructure, totaling 56 routes.
On October 1, 2009, the Tak Road Construction Center was renamed the Tak Highway Office, reflecting a change in its mission from road construction to road maintenance, as per the Department of Highways Order No. J.1.9/11/2552 dated August 13, 2009.
It is responsible for the western and lower northern regions, encompassing Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, and Sukhothai provinces. The Tak Highway Office has four subordinate highway districts:
1. Tak Highway District 1
2. Tak Highway District 2 (Mae Sot)
3. Kamphaeng Phet Highway District
4. Sukhothai Highway District
It controls 66 highway routes, totaling approximately 3,589 kilometers of two-lane roads.
On January 12, 2015, the Tak Highway Office changed its name to Highway Office 4 (Tak),
according to the Ministry of Transport's announcement regarding the division of government departments within the Department of Highways, Ministry of Transport, B.E. 2558 (2015).
Its current location is at 20 Phaholyothin Road, Chiang Ngoen Subdistrict, Mueang District, Tak Province, on an area of 92 rai, 2 ngan, and 73 square wah.
